D'CENT Wallet Team

On March 18, D'CENT hosted its first Squad AMA on X Spaces. Two community ambassadors — Wolfie and Levy — shared why they chose D'CENT after testing 10+ hardware wallets between them.

Biometric fingerprint authentication, 5-minute setup, and in-app DEX access were the standout features that convinced both users to stick with D'CENT as their primary hardware wallet. That said, no hardware wallet can prevent losses from user-approved malicious transactions — verifying every signing request on the device screen remains essential.

Key Takeaways

  • Biometric authentication — fingerprint unlocking was the #1 reason both users chose D'CENT over competitors
  • 5-minute setup — even first-time users can get started quickly
  • In-app DEX access — trade directly through the Discovery browser without external apps
  • 25th passphrase — an underrated feature that creates a hidden wallet layer
  • Blockaid integration — real-time scam detection across 50+ chains

Meet the D'CENT Squad

The D'CENT Squad is our ambassador pilot program on X. It brings together passionate community members who share their real-world experiences with D'CENT and advocate for self-custody. Rather than scripted promotions, Squad members create authentic content — unboxing videos, feature deep-dives, and honest reviews.

Ambassador

Wolfie @TheCrypticWolf1

In crypto since 2015. Full-time on X since 2020. Has tested hardware wallets from Trezor, Ledger, and at least eight other manufacturers. Bought his first D'CENT after spotting it on X in 2020, before ever joining the Squad.

Ambassador

Levy @levyscrypto

Lost funds in the 2022 Celsius bankruptcy. That hard lesson drove him to self-custody. Won a D'CENT Biometric Wallet through a giveaway that same year — and has been a dedicated user ever since.

The Conversation

Four questions. Two perspectives. Their honest answers.

Question 1

Why did you choose D'CENT over other hardware wallets?

Wolfie

"I've used like 10 different cryptocurrency hardware wallet companies. But I really love D'CENT just because the biometrics alone was a huge game changer for me. I didn't have to punch in codes or anything — I could use my fingerprint. And the great part is, my wife has her fingerprint on it too, so she can use it if she needs to. You can add up to three fingerprints."

Levy

"Way back in 2022, there was a giveaway with D'CENT. I won my first biometric wallet. At first, I didn't believe it was genuine till it arrived at my place. Before I began using it, I did my research. I really like the security approach of the D'CENT wallet — especially since this year, you guys introduced the Blockaid protection, which scans transactions. That's a huge plus for a hardware wallet."

Editor's Note

D'CENT's fingerprint sensor authenticates in 0.5 seconds and stores biometric data exclusively within the EAL5+ Secure Element chip — the same certification level used in banking smartcards and government IDs, as defined by the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement. The biometric template never leaves the device, and even the wallet's own firmware cannot access it.

Question 2

What was your first impression when unboxing D'CENT?

Wolfie

"It was pretty easy. I think, all in all, it took maybe less than five minutes to get it all set up. That shiny black right out of the box almost gives you like that new car smell. Pretty easy for even just an average Joe — shouldn't take you long to set up. Obviously, you want to keep those recovery words in a secure place."

Editor's Note

D'CENT Biometric Wallet supports up to 3 registered fingerprints, making it practical for family access — a feature Wolfie actively uses with his wife. The wallet generates a 24-word recovery phrase (BIP-39 standard) during setup, with an optional 25th passphrase for advanced users.

Question 3

What features stand out the most compared to other wallets?

Wolfie

"The main thing I've used is the web pages and DEXes through the app. That's been a huge game changer. I don't have to go use a different application and connect my hardware wallet to it. I can do it right in the Discovery part of the app — go to Uniswap, MetaMask, wherever — and do all my swaps right through the app."

Levy

"My first standout for the D'CENT wallet is the 25 seed phrase feature, which I think is the most underrated feature that people use in crypto. It's an extra security layer — even if someone somehow finds your 24-word phrase, the 25th one is in your head or somewhere else. For my personal perspective, it's the most valuable thing."

Editor's Note

The Discovery tab provides in-app access to DApps and DEXes while maintaining hardware-level signing security. Every transaction still requires fingerprint confirmation on the device screen — what D'CENT calls WYSIWYS (What You See Is What You Sign). This prevents blind signing attacks, where malware on a phone or PC alters transaction details without the user knowing.

The 25th word (passphrase) feature creates an entirely separate set of private keys from the same 24-word seed. Even with full access to the recovery phrase, an attacker cannot reach funds protected by the passphrase — because it exists only in the user's memory.

Question 4

Is there anything you'd want D'CENT to improve?

Wolfie

"I think you guys actually just recently introduced one — the notifications with the updated pricing. Getting a push notification is huge, because remember, hardware wallets are meant to be something where we just put the crypto on, let it sit there, and then sell it when the price goes higher. But nowadays, everybody wants the live notifications."

Editor's Note

D'CENT has integrated Blockaid for real-time threat detection across 50+ chains, providing pre-transaction scam alerts through the Discovery browser. Price alert notifications were also recently added based on community feedback. It's worth noting that while hardware wallets significantly reduce the risk of key theft, they cannot prevent losses from user-approved malicious transactions. According to Chainalysis's 2025 Crypto Crime Report, approval-based phishing remains one of the top attack vectors — user vigilance is essential regardless of wallet type.

CBO's Perspective: The Future of Self-Custody

D'CENT CBO Wankyu Kim closed the AMA by outlining the three pillars behind the wallet's design philosophy:

🔒

Security

CC EAL5+ Secure Element chip. Keys generated offline, stored encrypted, never leave the chip. Zero reported breaches since launch.

📱

Mobile-First

App-based architecture for managing assets on the go. Hardware wallet connects via Bluetooth for transaction signing.

🌍

Real-World Usage

Designed for daily carry, not a safe. Handles stablecoins, tokenized assets, and every asset type for everyday users.

"Our role as a wallet provider is to make sure security and self-service stays at the center, even as user experience improves and new features are added."

— Wankyu Kim, CBO

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the D'CENT Squad?

The D'CENT Squad is an ambassador pilot program on X (Twitter) that brings together community members who share authentic experiences with D'CENT products and advocate for self-custody in crypto.

How long does it take to set up the D'CENT Biometric Wallet?

According to Squad member Wolfie, the full setup — including registering fingerprints and backing up the recovery phrase — takes less than five minutes.

What is the 25th seed phrase (passphrase) feature?

The 25th word is an optional passphrase added to the standard 24-word recovery phrase. It generates an entirely separate set of private keys, providing an additional security layer even if someone gains access to your 24 words.

Can I use DEXes directly through D'CENT?

Yes. The Discovery tab in the D'CENT app provides in-app access to DEXes like Uniswap and other DApps. All transactions still require fingerprint confirmation on the hardware device for security.

Does D'CENT protect against scam sites?

D'CENT has integrated Blockaid for real-time threat detection. When you connect to a site through the Discovery browser, the wallet alerts you if it detects a known scam or phishing site. However, users should always verify transaction details on the device screen before signing.

Can multiple people use the same D'CENT wallet?

The D'CENT Biometric Wallet supports up to 3 registered fingerprints, allowing trusted family members to access the wallet when needed.
