Firmware Update
Update Your DCENT X Firmware
Firmware is the software that runs inside DCENT X. Support for new blockchain networks, feature improvements, and security patches are all delivered as firmware updates.
DCENT X firmware is delivered over Bluetooth through the DCENT mobile app on iOS or Android. No cable connection to a PC or a phone is required.
Before You Begin
Check these three things before starting an update.
App connection
DCENT X must be connected to the DCENT mobile app over Bluetooth.
Check the batteries
The update cannot start if the DCENT X battery is below 20% or the phone battery is below 15%.
We recommend keeping the device connected to power throughout.
An uninterrupted setup
The device must not lose power or disconnect during the update.
Keep the device and your phone close together.
Firmware Update Requirements
The update runs from the mobile app. The device only shows progress; every action happens in the app.
Depending on what the update includes, the device may reboot several times. Follow the guidance shown on screen.
No Firmware Downgrade
Once you install the latest firmware, it is not possible to revert to an older version.
Do Not Do These During the Update
Powering off the device, disconnecting Bluetooth from the app, force-quitting the app, or moving the device and your phone out of Bluetooth range.
Any of these can interrupt the update.
A Disconnection Notice Is Normal
Bluetooth drops briefly while the device reboots and a disconnection notice appears.
Wait, and the app reconnects on its own.
Supported Update Method
Update Using the Mobile App (Bluetooth · iOS and Android)
Firmware updates for DCENT X are performed from the DCENT mobile app. Here is the flow at a glance.
- On the device, go to Setting > Device Info > Firmware update to check for new firmware. If new firmware is available, the device asks you to update from the mobile app.
- With DCENT X connected, tap the more (⋮) button at the top right of the app's Settings tab, then tap Firmware Update with the New badge.
- Review the notice and the important notes, then tap Update via Bluetooth. From here on, the app handles the rest — just wait until it finishes.
- When the completion screen appears, tap Go to home. You can verify the version at Setting > Device Info > Firmware update.
Update Your DCENT Biometric Wallet Firmware
Your DCENT Biometric Wallet is fully functional right out of the box. Firmware updates are not required for normal use, and you can continue using the device safely even without installing the latest version.
We release new firmware frequently because we are continuously improving performance, security, and asset support. Most firmware updates are released when:
- New blockchains or tokens are added
- New features or usability improvements become available
- Security enhancements or optimizations are introduced
If you do not need the newly supported assets or features included in the latest firmware, you may continue using your wallet as it is. However, keeping your device up to date is generally recommended to ensure the best experience and access to the latest improvements.
Before You Begin
Although firmware updates do not delete or reset your wallet, it’s important to follow the basic preparation checklist to ensure the update process goes smoothly.
Have your 24 Recovery Words ready
You won’t need to enter them for a simple firmware update, and your wallet will remain intact afterward.
However, in the rare event the update is interrupted (power outage, cable disconnect, etc.), your Recovery Words may be needed to restore your wallet.
Firmware Update Requirements
Firmware updates can be performed using a Windows PC, macOS, or an Android mobile phone. The update process is simple and usually takes 3–5 minutes.
Keeping your device updated is recommended, but not mandatory. Your wallet works straight out of the box, and updates are only needed if you want access to newly supported blockchains, tokens, or features.
No Firmware Downgrade
Once you install the latest firmware, it is not possible to revert to an older version.
Keep Your Device Connected
Do not disconnect the wallet during the update.
Make sure your PC or Android phone stays powered and connected until the update is complete.
Supported Update Methods
1. Update Using a Computer (Windows or macOS)
When updating from a personal computer (Windows or macOS), the firmware tool works the best with the Google Chrome browser.
Depending on the model of your Biometric wallet, use the appropriate USB cable:
Newer Model with USB-C port
Use a USB-C cable that supports data transfer.
Connect directly to your PC or Mac and start the firmware tool.
Older Model with USB Micro-B (5-pin) port
Use a USB Micro-B (5-pin) cable that supports data transfer.
We recommend using the original cable included in the package for the most stable connection.
2. Update Using an Android Phone (iOS Not Supported Yet)
Firmware updates can be performed directly from the DCENT mobile app on Android.
Newer Model with USB-C port
Use a USB-C cable.
No OTG adapter is required as the USB-C cable allows data communication between the phone and the Biometric wallet.
Older Model with USB Micro-B (5-pin) port
Use the DCENT OTG Cable (sold separately on our store).
Standard charging cables will not work—the OTG cable is required because it enables data communication between the phone and the Biometric wallet.
